Toms River: Pedestrian struck, killed

The following is a release from the Toms River Police Department:

On Sunday, November 5 police and medical units responded to the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Terrace Avenue for a motor vehicle crash. 

Rosemary Goebel, 76, from Northstream Drive in Toms River, was operating a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. She was traveling east on Terrace Avenue at 5:49 pm when she made a left turn through a green light to go northbound on Hooper Avenue.  

She then struck a man and woman who were crossing Hooper Avenue in an easterly direction.

Manuela Morales-Torres, 60, of Walnut Street died as a result of the impact with the vehicle.  A 62-year-old male companion of hers was also injured. He is currently being treated at a local hospital for several injuries. It is not yet known if the two pedestrians were in a crosswalk when they were struck.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officers Robert Westfall and Brian Doyle are conducting the investigation along with members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Division.
