Police: Motorcyclist seriously injured after losing control

The following is a press release from the Toms River Police Department: 

On May 10 at 2:43 p.m. police and medical units responded to Route 37 near Gateway Toyota for a serious crash.  

A 26-year-old Lakewood man was traveling east on Route 37 in the left lane on his 2017 motorcycle. He made a high speed lane change and lost control.  

He then drove into the back of a 2009 Toyota that was traveling in the center lane. The Toyota was being operated by a 77-year-old Lavallette woman.

The woman was not injured. However, the man sustained serious injuries.  

He was taken by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred between Peter Avenue and Washington Street.

The crash is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officers Adam Koeppen and Pascal Gambardella.
