Ocean: Knife-wielding woman cuts another during dispute

The following is a release from the Ocean Township (Monmouth County) Police Department:

On April 16, 2017 at approximately 4:43 am police responded to an Oakhurst residence for a report physical altercation involving a knife.

When police arrived they located a female subject holding a knife, later identified as Beth Laurent and a male subject who witnessed the event. Officers subsequently took Laurent into custody without incident.

Officers then located another female subject identified as Kristina Sterling who had suffered a laceration to her arm. She had fled the scene on foot after the altercation.

Further investigation revealed that a dispute occurred between Laurent and Sterling inside the home. Sterling then exited the home out into the yard. Laurent then came out wielding a knife and struck Sterling in her arm.

Sterling was also found to be in possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia, hypodermic syringes and illegal prescription drugs. She was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by the Oakhurst First Aid and later released. She was then taken back to the police station and processed.

Laurent was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of aggravated assault and criminal mischief. Sterling was charged with possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia, hypodermic syringes and four Xanax pills. Sterling and Laurent were both transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending their initial court appearance.
