No tsunami alert after earthquake off Maryland coast
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the Maryland coast Tuesday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The earthquake, centered about 136 miles east-southeast of Ocean City, Maryland, occurred around 6:30 p.m.
No tsunami alerts were issued by U.S. Tsunami Warning System, and no damage was immediately reported.
The United States Geological Survey’s “Community Internet Intensity Map” shows multiple reports of “weak” shaking felt in coastal Delaware.
No information currently indicates that the earthquake was felt in New Jersey.
In August 2011, a 5.8 earthquake centered in the Piedmont region of Virginia rattled most of the Eastern seaboard.
