Long Branch: Body recovered on beach
Authorities recovered a body on the beach at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park in Long Branch on Tuesday.
Police say the body appears to be that of Sinisa Bjelajac, 44, the kite surfer who went missing off Sandy Hook last Friday.
An examination is underway to confirm the identity.
Authorities began responding to the area near Horseshoe Cove in Sandy Hook around 5:30 p.m. Friday after a report from a boater stating that he found an unconscious man in a harness attached to a kite, according to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard.
But as the boater attempted to pull the kite surfer, described as a white man with black hair, from the water, a large gust of wind pulled the kite line of out of hands and he lost sight of the man, the statement said.
The search was suspended on Saturday.
