Three people and a dog were rescued from a sinking boat early Saturday morning in the Manasquan Inlet.

Authorities say they received an “urgent call for help” from the captain of the fishing vessel taking on water around 2 a.m.

U.S. Coast Guard and Manasquan Fire Department crews responded within minutes and discovered the boat, dubbed “Miss Kathleen” out of Tarpon Springs, Fla., sinking just inside the inlet, according to officials.

The responders removed three fishermen and a dog and transported them to the nearby Coast Guard station in Point Pleasant Beach for further evaluation.

No injuries were reported. It was not immediately known what caused the vessel to sink.

“With air temperatures in the low 20s, executing any rescue on the water can be a challenge,” a Manasquan Office of Emergency Management spokesperson said.
