A man escaped injury after firefighters came to his rescue and pulled him a muddy tidal waterway on Thursday, authorities say.

Firefighters responded to 506 W. Rio Grande Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. on a report of a man stuck in the mud, according to a Wildwood Fire Department news release.

The location is near the George Redding Bridge and across from Mud Island.

Responding crews determined that the 52-year-old man, who authorities identified as a “worker,” was stuck up to his waist.

Firefighters donned dry suits and entered the water, which was rapidly rising due to the incoming tide, securing the man with a rope and pulling him to safety.
