Cops rescue 200 pound dog found clinging onto bay bulkhead

A large dog found in a chilly back bay in Atlantic County on Monday is alive thanks to the efforts of police officers and a boat recovery company staffer.

Authorities say Brigantine Police Officer Joe Sweet responded to a Bayshore Avenue house on a report of a lost dog.

Upon arrival, Sweet found the Mastiff, reportedly weighing more than 200 pounds, “grasping” on to a bulkhead in the bay behind the Bayshore Avenue property, according to police.

Additional officers arrived, along with a member of Sea Tow Atlantic City, to rescue the dog from the water.

A buoy in nearby Absecon recorded a water temperature of around 50 degrees on Monday.
